Gold coins are the currency of the civilization in Foundation. Although not seen within the map, a village can hld an initial 500 coins with the ability to expand capacity with the installation of treasuries in buildings such as a manor house.

Obtaining Coins

There are five routes to obtaining gold coins:

Initially income will come from the markets themselves as villagers purchse food and goods with the envoy quests helping to further supplement income. Income from quests can be extended by building a keep and training soldiers to send out to fight in other kingdoms. Due to the requirment of Tools early in the village's devlopment, trade will become available before military quests are a possibility.

As the vilage reaches its most advanced stages of development, taverns will become available which will generate income from villages of high ranks (commoner and above.) Further to this, tax collectors wil be able to collect additional revenue from homes, regardless of the rank of the villagers within them.

Spending Coins

Coins are used in three ways:

  • Cover the costs of territories and building maintenance
  • Construction of buildings
  • Purchases made via trading.

The bulk of coins will be spent on territories and buildings, with trade being the second largest potential expense. Construction is as when and only for specific buildings. The expenses for building maintennce, territories and trade are tracked in the Budget section of the Book.
