The Monastery is a building in Foundation. It is unlocked in tier 1 on the Clergy path of the Progression tree for the cost of . It is a modular building, meaning that it can contain a number of sub-buildings, which allow different sections of the same building to perform different functions. These sub-buildings are unlocked in various tiers of the Clergy path. | The Monastery is a building in Foundation. The Monastery is unique in that the player cannot assign workers to individual jobs within the Monastery. Instead, assuming that there is space available in the Monk Dorms or Nun Dorms, the player can click the "Devote a male villager to the Monastery" or "Devote a female villager to the Monastery" in the building's menu to devote unemployed Villagers to the Monastery. The game algorithm then automatically assigns the newly-created Monastics to jobs within the Monastery. Monastics can only do live in Dorms and do jobs in sub-buildings within the same Monastery to which they were devoted.
This system reflects the true fact that secular lords and rulers (such as the player) had relatively little influence over the internal workings of monasteries in Medieval times.
