Overview

The Cloister is a modular sub-building of the Monastery. It is first unlocked in tier 2 on the Clergy path of the Progression tree for the cost of 5 Clergy Influence.png Clergy Influence, and further parts can be unlocked later in the tree. It satisfies the Cloister Need of Monastics at the rank of Brother/Sister and higher, as well as certain Visitors related to the Monastery, such as Pilgrims and the Abbess.

The Cloister does not require workers, but must meet several construction requirements (below) in order to function properly.

The Cloister is modular and can therefore be expanded and decorated, using both the common building parts of the Monastery and its own unique building parts.

Construction

Requirements

The Cloister must have at least one outer door, or be connected to another building which has an outer door.

It must consist of at least 2 Cloister Hall (walkways and/or corners) parts and at least one Cloister Garden Entrance. The Cloister Garden Entrance is not the same as an outer door; this piece allows Monastics to enter the central garden/courtyard for reflection and meditation.

The Cloister must completely enclose a space. This space acts as the inner garden, to which Monastics can go to reflect and meditate.

This inner garden must have a minimum size of 50 square metres. In terms of unique Cloister parts, this means 12 walkway/entrance pieces and 4 corners. However each length of the Cloister must be at least 4 parts long (2 walkway/entrance and 2 corners); therefore a 5x5 configuration works, and a 4x6 also works, but a 3x7 configuration does not.

The garden can have a maximum area of 1000 square metres. In terms of unique Cloister Parts, this means 42 walkway/entrance pieces and 4 corners. However, only empty space within the courtyard is counted for this maximum. Therefore the player can make their Cloister larger if they decorate the inner courtyard with decorations or buildings; any space taken up by these decorations is effectively subtracted from the Cloister's area in the maximum area calculation.

Unique Parts

The Cloister has two groups of unique building parts (Rustic and Modest) which must be unlocked in the Clergy path of the Progression Tree. Both groups include three pieces; Cloister Walkway, Cloister Corner and Cloister Entrance. These are not the only parts that can be used for a Cloister however; it can be constructed out of any Monastery building parts, so long as the requirements below are satisfied.

The unique Cloister parts have sloping roofs. When these parts are used they must always be oriented so that the roof slopes inwards towards the inner garden/courtyard.
